In 2011, Kent Security of Miami officers working at the Miami City Hall went on strike to protest against low pay and alleged "wage theft." As a result of their efforts, they attained a settlement. They were supported by 32BJ SEIU, a union with over 145,000 members nationwide, and Stand for Security. Their strike preceded the nationwide protests against the growing wealth inequality in the nation known as the "occupy" protests. These courageous workers paved the way for increased awareness of labor rights in the state.
In Naples in the summer of 2015, a former road supervisor filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board against Kent Security of Naples alleging he was retaliated against for reporting abusive conduct in the Kensington Golf and Country Club gatehouse and other matters. The supervisor in the gatehouse decorated the workplace with paddles and had a shame board with the supposed grammatical and other mistakes of her subordinates highlighted with a bold red marker. This became known as the "Wall of Shame" scandal that deeply embarrassed the company's headquarters in Miami, given the extensive coverage of it by the Miami New Times and Fox 4 of Cape Coral. The case was even posted on Infowars.com as an example of the increasing dehumanization of American workers. Following a thorough investigation by this agency, Kent Security settled the matter by agreeing to post up notices at gatehouses informing employees of their rights, including to bring up safety concerns with upper management. To this day, Google has preserved this story for future security officers in case the company tries to repeat this shameful conduct.
Following this scandal, Kent Security of Naples hired a White Supremacist operations manager in charge of over 100 employees in the district. He was posting "White power" logos on his public Facebook page while managing a diverse workforce.
Kent Security Services Inc. is currently dealing with a lawsuit, filed on December 15, 2015 in Broward County, alleging that a security officer working for the company maced and caused permanent injuries to a man in Pembroke Pines. There appears to be a dispute over the proper name of the defendant, with one party claiming the proper name is Kent Security Services Inc. and the other claiming it is Kent Security of Palm Beach Inc. This lawsuit has been publicized because it is absolutely critical for security officers to be aware that these situations may arise and to mitigate the risks and dangers inherent to their job.
On August 31, 2016, a woman filed a lawsuit against Kent Security of Palm Beach Inc. claiming discrimination and constructive discharge due to her pregnancy. She alleges she was made to work in an unfinished home lacking a restroom after notifying her employer of her pregnancy. In her lawsuit, Kent Security's alleged history of pregnancy discrimination is mentioned. Reportedly, Kent Security Services Inc. settled a previous pregnancy discrimination case.
On December 1, 2016, a blogger and whistleblower exposed that the CEO Gil Neuman has been repeatedly sanctioned in court, the first while being sued by Leslie Langein, who represented Kent Security in a previous pregnancy discrimination case, and the second while suing Michael Weiss of Response Datacom LLC. The blogger then uploaded a video of these sanctions for all to see just two weeks later. The company then proceeded to file a lawsuit against the blogger claiming defamation for, among other things, calling the CEO a "beta male," which is a quality not universally regarded as negative. In response, the blogger has referred to the lawsuit as "frivolous," and believes it will fail due to the primacy of the First Amendment. In March of 2017, the blogger filed a lawsuit against the company claiming retaliation relating to the scandal in Naples that drew media attention a couple of years earlier. Predictably, and similar to the pregnancy discrimination lawsuit against Kent Security of Palm Beach Inc., the company has filed a motion to compel the case to arbitration.
